The Border

I used to think
Love was a curse
Now I know
I was right

Impossible to escape
It sneaks up on me
Often disguising itself
As friendship

A thin line
Separates the two
Friendship and love
Without no-man's land

No inbetween
No safety-zone

And after crossing
That line
Going back
Is impossible

Friendship will never be
As pure as it was
Before the change
All gone

Draw up the new maps
Fill in the blanks
Forget who we were
This is who we are

We stand separated
Each on our own side
Of that border
Between friendship and love

Will you ever question
My motives?
Will I ever look for
Ambiguity in your words?

Some things
Are better left
Unspoken
Untouched

It is safer that way
